Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening trophy on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

However, Marseille struck two times in the closing moments to take a shock lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the dying moments to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to complete a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
